TWIN NOIR is a Post-Punk/Wave/EBM artist duo founded in Berlin in 2021, consisting of Cody Barcelona (voice, electronics, guitar) and Ian Volt (voice, bass). The band is completed by Lina Avair, who handles the operational side while also contributing creatively. Their music oscillates between electronically monotonic sounds, expansive atmospheres, and melodic moments, combined with minimalist lyrics in German.
When hardly anyone believed in the project, the three took matters into their own hands by learning, growing, and developing TWIN NOIR step by step through their one determination in a consistent, independent, and uncompromising way. Everything is handled in house: from the music and visuals to the organization and releases via their self-founded label Twin Noir Records. Together, they conceive TWIN NOIR as a holistic work of art, musically, visually, and conceptually.
The sound of TWIN NOIR is shaped by an analog tape machine, a sampler, guitars and a theremin, through which the duo creates their own blend of Punk and Wave music. Technoid beats, driving basslines, and atmospheres played alternately by synthesizers and guitars create moments that invite dancing, floating and drifting. The influences of both artists range from bands like KRAFTWERK and DAF to the EBM and Techno scenes, as well as Punk and Rock from the 70s to 90s.
Live, TWIN NOIR impresses with energetic performances and danceable sound. Their show is inspired by Berlin?s club culture, Punk and Vaudeville, aiming to celebrate and manifest freedom, creativity and art. The duo began performing in Berlin in 2022 and has since played in 21 countries. TWIN NOIR toured across Europe, the United Kingdom, the Balkans and Mexico, where they recorded half of their debut album in Mexico City. Back in Europe, they completed the recordings at the "Portugal Recording Studio" near Lisbon, where they also recorded their follow-up debut "2 Punks and a Tape Machine - Chapter //" in summer 2024.
Among their milestones are the presentation of three songs by Iggy Pop on his BBC Radio 6 show, being listed as one of the "50 most promising European artists? by the Europelive initiative, and appearances at renowned festivals such as Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig and Extramuralhas Festival in Leiria, Portugal. TWIN NOIR have also toured as support for DAF, She Past Away, and Men Without Hats.
